Crosby Curiosities

by Michael Stammers
£12.99   paperback  Tempus Publishing Ltd (2006)

Crosby Curiosities by Michael Stammers Crosby, today a suburb of Liverpoool, has a great sense of its own identity and many locals refer to it as Crosby Village. Most of its area if now covered by roads and houses, but this was not always the case. This book explores what remains of Crosby's past on the ground - in other words, it tells the story of Crosby through the historical remnants which have survived such as the early nineteenth-century seafront terraces of Waterloo or the letterhead of Thorougoods Brewery - things that intrigue and have a story to tell.
Divided into two parts, the first part of the book offers a general commentary on different aspects of Crosby's development from the shore to local institutions, while the second part explores the different types of building materials found in Crosby as well as signs, dates and inscriptions.
This book is a valuable pictorial history which gives a fascinating insight into Crosby's unique heritage.
