In rural Indiana, New York, New England, and the Southwest, Baumann captured the spirit of his surroundings with affectionate respect. In 1918, he settled in New Mexico, where he would spend the rest of his life. Immersing himself in the Santa Fe artists’ colony, he developed printing techniques that grace his works with a luminous quality, suiting the region’s broad skies and relentless sun. Whether yellow-leaved aspens, spring-blooming lilacs, or a colorful bouquet, Baumann’s subjects convey the beauty of everyday life.
