Makoto Nakamura Tessellations 2017 Wall Calendar

by Makoto Nakamura - £10.99  Pomegranate (2016)
calendar    ISBN 13: 9780764973635 | ISBN 10: 0764973630

Any discussion on tessellations usually returns to the Alhambra, in Spain, where fourteenth-century artisans tiled seemingly endless surfaces with repeating, interlocking, never overlapping geometric patterns. These tiles inspired M.C. Escher, the father of modern tessellation art. Escher, in turn, inspired Makoto Nakamura.

Born in Tokyo in 1947, Nakamura began creating tessellations in the 1970s after studying graphic design at the Tama Art University. He later founded the Japan Tessellation Design Association, which aims to further the field of tessellation art and holds annual exhibitions. These days he works digitally, even creating animations from his tessellations, as well as in three dimensions, making complex spheres out of the same sorts of creatures found here.

All of Pomegranate’s calendars are printed with soy-based inks on FSC® certified paper, which means the paper has been certified by the Forest Stewardship Council™ and manufactured by an FSC certified printer.
