The Spanish Civil War: The View from the Left

by Al Richardson (editor) - £18.95  Merlin Press (2007)
paperback    ISBN 13: 9780850365986 | ISBN 10: 0850365988

This book presents a left which, in the midst of civil war and revolution, chose to oppose both fascism and the popular front. The revolution in Spain was overturned by Stalinists and their allies. The Popular Front government of Doctor Negrin facilitated the destruction of collectives and permitted the work of Russian secret services, the murder and torture that demoralised workers and peasants. This book presents a spectrum of contemporary left viewpoints, introduced and annotated in detail. An introductory essay by Andy Durgan surveys the development of Trotskyism and of the POUM.
