Da Book O Trows

by The Shetland Folklore Development Group
£15.00   book with CD  Shetland Folklore Development Group (2007)

Da Book O Trows by The Shetland Folklore Development Group Every Shetlander has heard of Trows, the little people who live in the hills. For centuries Shetlanders have been encountering the Trows and dealing with their mischievous and often unfriendly behaviour towards humans.

Da Book O Trows is a collection of such encounters, as recorded throughout Shetland over the past 400 years. These accounts have been passed down through generations by word of mouth, told around the fireside and also related to travellers, folklorists and historians who have documented them. In this book you will find many examples of the Trow's habits, from stealing cattle, food and even children, to leading unsuspecting fiddlers into their underground homes to entertain the Trows for days on end.

This volume was compiled by the Shetland Folklore Development Group. The group was founded in 2005 to preserve and promote the folklore of Shetland.

This collection also includes a CD of new and archive recordings featuring both storytellers and musicians.
