The Co-operative Revolution: A Graphic Novel

by Polyp - £5.99  New Internationalist Publications Ltd (2012)
paperback    ISBN 13: 9781780260822 | ISBN 10: 1780260822

To celebrate the United Nations International Year of Co-operatives, The Co-operative Group has created a graphic novel, depicting the history, scale and diversity of co-operation.

The Co-operative Revolution: A Graphic Novel vividly showcases the past, present and future of a radical movement that has grown to become the most successful grassroots campaign the world has ever seen.

The novel is in four chapters - the first conveys in detail the story of the Rochdale Pioneers, their predecessors, and the issues of the Victorian period, the second looks at co-operation today, the third focuses on (the science of) co-operation in nature, and the fourth portrays an optimistic, sustainable and co-operative vision of the world in 2044.

In addition to the new historical context, the Novel tells of the incredible diversity of the 1.4million co-operatives that now operate across the world (from snake catchers in India to the supporter-owned FC Barcelona). It also explains how scientific thinking has evolved in recent years to recognise that co-operation is a major driving force in nature – equalling the power of selfish genes.

Published by New Internationalist on behalf of The Co-operative Group.
