My Life at Speke Hall

by Tom Whatmore
£9.99   paperback  Countyvise Ltd (2009)

My Life at Speke Hall by Tom Whatmore My father Thomas Whatmore went to Speke Hall as the last butler to the last owner, Adelaide Watt, in 1920. In 1921 Adelaide died and in her will left Speke Hall in trust for 21 years. By 1926 the Hall had been emptied of all staff and the trustees asked my father if he would become caretaker of the Hall for the rest of the trust period.

So we as a family moved into Speke Hall in 1926 and my brother Frank and I spent the next twenty years growing up there.

The history of the Hall was part of our life, so were the stories that went with the house, which the reader can believe or not! The stories about my life are true!

I hope the reader will enjoy that which is written and perhaps visit the Hall and estate.
