We're a friendly informal group who meet on a monthly basis to exchange ideas, recipes and tips to promote vegetarianism within the Lancashire area. Liverpool Recycle - The Liverpool Recycle group is open to all who want to "recycle" that special something rather than throw it away. Whether it's a chair, a fax machine, piano or an old door, feel free to post it. Or maybe you're looking to acquire something yourself! Nonprofit groups are also welcome to participate too! The main rule is that everything posted must be FREE. Liverpool Recycle is part of the Freegle organisation, a network of groups dedicated to keeping anything reusable out of landfill sites. Liverpool World Centre - Liverpool World Centre (LWC) is a locally run and registered charity, a member of the Development Education Association (DEA). Established in September 2000, LWC aims to raise awareness of the interdependence of communities locally and globally through, for example, trade, food, culture, labour, impacts on the climate and the environment. It played a major role in the successful campaign to achieve Fair Trade City status for Liverpool. In addition to projects working with schools councils and the Liverpool Schools Parliament, LWC is setting up a Global Education Resource Centre, and has recently appointed a temporary administrator to assist in this endeavour and to support its other project workers generally. The group organizes bi-annual food fayres, demonstrates against local animal abusing industries, organizes transport to national events, monitors local hunts and supports local animal rescues. Welsh Streets - The Welsh Streets Home Group was formed in 2004 by some 20 neighbours who discovered their homes were included in what would be the biggest land clearances since the 1960’s. The Welsh Streets is an area of around 450 terraced houses next to Liverpool’s Princes Park. The fight to save them from demolition has lasted 7 years so far. Even though the government has cut the HMRI scheme responsible for condemning the area, the battle is far from over. Liverpool City Council continue to pursue demolition whilst the campaigners, co-ordinated by the residents of the Welsh Streets Home Group, pursue alternatives.
