A Troubled Dream

by Jacques Compton - £8.99  Hansib Publications Limited (2009)
paperback    ISBN 13: 9781906190132 | ISBN 10: 1906190135

In the years after the Second World War, many West Indians came to live and work in Britain following the recruitment drives of such institutions as London Transport and the National Health Service. Many had also served in the British Armed Forces during the war and decided to make Britain their new home.

These new arrivals sought a life of prosperity in the "mother country", but in reality they were often faced with a hostile and unwelcoming environment. Most learned to live with these 'obstacles' and later sent for their families.

A Troubled Dream tells the story of a young married couple whose lives reflect the continuing dilemmas faced by West Indians in English society, while at the same time having to address the conflicts between the older and younger generations.
