The Adventures of the Third Liver Bird is a rhyming children's picture book that celebrates all things Liverpool. The hero of the story is a fun-loving little Liver Bird named Carl. He flies around Merseyside helping out strangers, making friends and bringing smiles to kids' faces wherever he goes.
One day while out flying Carl meets a young girl named Mercy who has just arrived in the city and is feeling sad and lonely. To cheer her up he takes her on an incredible aerial tour over Liverpool, teaches her Scouse and introduces her to the magical world of her new home.
The main purpose of the book is to entertain young readers, but it's also been written to appeal to adults' local pride and sense of humour. Underlying the fun is a topical and heart-warming message about belonging and inclusion (it is unstated but perhaps obvious to the adult reader that Mercy is a refugee).
